Reviews roundup – Fujifilm X-T4 : Should you buy it?

Here’s a roundup of all the Fujifilm X-T4 reviews, ratings and impressions from the web. Discover its strengths and weaknesses here!

Released in April 2020, the Fujifilm X-T4 is a mirrorless camera featuring a 26MP BSI CMOS sensor, a 6.5EV image stabilization, and a fully articulated touchscreen. There are 425 focus points available in single mode AF, or 117 points in a 13 x 9 grid for a wider AF. It weighs 526 g, battery included.

The camera can shoot up to 15 fps through its mechanical shutter. Videos can be shot in 1080 at up to 240 fps, or in 4K at up to 60fps. The files are recorded on UHS-II SD cards. The camera has two slots that can be used separately, or can record simultaneously for an instant backup. It uses the proprietary NP-W235 battery, lasting 500 frames per charge. The X-T4 can be charged through a USB-C cable that can be used to access the files on the SD cards as well.

So what do the critics think of the Fujifilm X-T4?

Overall most reviews say that the Fujifilm X-T4 is a very capable camera. The BSI CMOS sensor is doing a great job in low light conditions, coupled with the image stabilization. The pictures are sharp in JPG and the RAW gives plenty of room to work with. The video quality is great, especially in 4K. The autofocus seems to be weak compared to concurrent models though. The X-T4 is also quite expensive for an APS-C format mirrorless camera.

Dpreview.com – 88% (Gold Award) – ‘The X-T4 is one of the most expensive APS-C cameras available but also probably the most capable. Its autofocus system isn’t quite as consistent or refined as the best of its rivals but in every other respect it excels. Its images are attractive, its video quality superb and it’s engaging to shoot with.’

Digitalcameraworld.com★★★★★ (Gold Award) – ‘We can’t help but give the Fujifilm X-T4 a five-star rating. Practically everything we wanted in the X-T3 is here, including in-body stabilization, a vari-angle touchscreen display and better battery life. We still want more (of course), including better buffer depth in continuous shooting mode, but that would just be the icing on the cake. The X-T4 isn’t just a terrific stills camera, of course. It also has cutting edge 4K video performance, with 60p 10-bit internal recording. It’s just a shame Fujifilm dropped the headphone socket (you’ll need an adaptor now).’

Ephotozine.com★★★★★ (Editor’s Choice) – ‘The Fujifilm X-T4 is an impressive camera, and with built-in IBIS, a vari-angle screen, and improved battery life, the camera offers a compelling option for both stills and videographers.’

Pcmag.com – 5/5 (Outstanding) – ‘The Fujifilm X-T4 sports class-leading autofocus, a 26MP APS-C sensor, stellar image processing, 4K video, and a stabilized image sensor. Outside of full-frame models, you won’t find a better camera.’

Photographyblog.com – 5/5 (Essential) – ‘All in all, the Fujifilm X-T4 is a delightful blend of old and new. It packs a wondrous photo and video capability and high-speed performance inside an attractive, premium quality body.’

Trustedreviews.com★★★★★ (Highly Recommended) – ‘Fujifilm is king when it comes to APS-C, the X-T4 is this generation’s camera to beat in this camera class.’

Thephoblographer.com – 5/5 – ‘The Fujifilm XT4 is an outstanding choice for professionals as well as hobbyists that are serious about photography, as long as you can justify the higher price of admission.’

Techradar.com★★★★★ (‘Best in class’) – ‘The Fujifilm X-T4 is the best APS-C mirrorless camera you can buy right now. There’s enough here to persuade both photographers and filmmakers over the X-T3, including the significantly improved battery life, in-body image stabilization, quieter shutter, and design tweaks that make a big difference to the handling. The X-T4’s design is both charming and intuitive, while its class-leading photo and video specs are backed up by powerful performance. This is truly two cameras in one, and very fine hybrid all-rounder.’

Wired.com – 8/10 – ‘This is a near-perfect camera for the sort of photographer who wants the best of both worlds—great stills and good video.’
