Cameralabs.com★★★★(Recommended) – ‘The R5 will be frustrating for commercial film-makers, potentially workable for some hybrid shooters, and a triumph for mostly stills photographers. Consider your usage carefully, but if it fits your requirements the EOS R5 becomes the camera the Canon faithful will aspire to.’

Digitalcameraworld.com★★★★ – ‘As a stills camera, the Canon EOS R5 is simply Canon’s finest product ever. It’s the perfect amalgamation of the EOS R’s form, the EOS 5D’s function, and the professional-grade autofocus of the EOS-1D X. If you’re a stills or hybrid shooter who flits between photography and videography, it’s one of the best cameras you will ever have the pleasure of using. Alas, we can’t recommend the R5 if your primary interest is pure video shooting. Don’t get us wrong, its video is incredible – but having to navigate the overheating restrictions prohibits it from being your A-camera (unless you only shoot 4K 30p, in which case you don’t need this anyway).’

Ephotozine.com★★★★½ (Highly recommended) – ‘The Canon EOS R5 does a lot of things extremely well, and is at the cutting edge of video recording features, however this could also leave video users frustrated at times.’

Pcmag.com★★★★ (Excellent) – ‘Still photographers will find little at fault with the high-resolution Canon EOS R5, but heat management issues will leave video-first creatives looking elsewhere.’

Photographyblog.com★★★★½ (Highly recommended) – ‘Overall, the new Canon EOS R5 is the best all-round mirrorless camera for photographers, but misses the mark on the movie side for anyone but casual videographers thanks to the headline-grabbing overheating problems.’

Photoreview.com.au – 9/10 (Editor’s choice – Recommended)

Thephoblographer.com – 5/5 – ‘The Canon EOS R5 is a fantastic camera in pretty much every regard. It does everything that photographers want it to do.’

Techradar.com★★★★½ – ‘Canon’s best ever stills camera, the EOS R5 is an incredibly powerful tool for almost every kind of photography. While that versatility doesn’t quite extend to video, it is still a compelling hybrid option if you’re aware of its limitations. The only major barrier for most of us is that price tag.’
