Here’s a roundup of all the Panasonic Lumix GX9 reviews, ratings and impressions from the web. Discover its strengths and weaknesses here!
Released in March 2018, the Panasonic Lumix GX9 features a 20.3MP Four Thirds sensor, a tilting 2.76M-dot electronic viewfinder and a 3″ 1.24M-dot touchscreen display. It has a built-in flash and uses an electromagnetic shutter, bursting up to 6fps in continuous mode.
Autofocus is made through a Depth from Defocus (DFD) contrast-detection system. Images are stabilized with a ‘Dual IS’ 5-axis in-body image stabilization. The GX9 can shoot photos in JPG and RAW, and videos in 1080p at 60fps or 4k at up to 30fps. Pictures and videos can be recorded on a single slot SDHC/SDXC card. It embarks on Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, as well as a mini-hdmi port. The camera weighs 450 g with its 260 shots capable battery included.
So what do the critics think of the Panasonic Lumix GX9?
Overall most reviews say that the Panasonic Lumix GX9 is a decent camera for a decent price. The autofocus is fast and precise, and the image quality is good for its price range. The ISO range is correct for most lighting conditions.
The camera is small and lightweight, making it a good fit for travels and street photography. The battery life seems too limited for long sessions though. Most controls need to be accessed through the menus, making it slower to snap the perfect shot. The body is not weather-proofed, so it reduces its use in difficult conditions or tropical settings.
- 20.3 MP high resolution MOS Sensor with Tuned 3 Dimensional Color Control to detect hue, saturation and brightness for optimal results
- 5 Axis Dual I.S. combines an O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer, 2 axis) and an I.B.I.S. (In Body Image Stabilization, 5 axis); 5 axis Dual I.S. enables up to 4 stop slower shutter speeds
- Live View Finder 2760k dot high resolution LFV tilts up by approx. 80 degrees with nearly 100% color reproduction; 1. 39x / 0. 7x (35mm camera equiv.) magnification and 100% field of view

Camerajabber.com – ★★★★★ – ‘From its small size to its tilting viewfinder, tilting LCD, no anti-aliasing filter and a host of other interesting features, the Panasonic GX9 is perfectly adapted for street photographers. And it’s also very reasonably priced. So if you’re looking for a high-quality, portable camera for your travels and days out, this is one of the best options available.’
Cameralabs.com – ★★★½ (Recommended) – ‘Vloggers will wish it had a microphone input and a screen that flipped-forward to face them, while serious action shooters will be better-served by a camera with a phase-detect hybrid AF system; I’d also personally like it a lot more if Panasonic had used an OLED viewfinder panel which, to my eyes, delivers a steadier image.’
Dpreview.com – 84% (Silver Award) – ‘With its compact size, robust feature set, abundant controls and overall responsiveness, the Panasonic Lumix DC-GX9 is a great camera for all kinds of photographers. The trick tilting viewfinder is a neat touch (though we wish it were larger), and limited battery life remains a sticking point. But impressive in-body image stabilization, a pleasing JPEG engine and good quality 4K capture mean the Lumix GX9 is a camera we can easily recommend.’
Digitalcameraworld.com – ★★★★★ – ‘The GX9 ticks all the right boxes in terms of specifications, size and price, but despite its traditional-looking exterior and external dials, it relies heavily on its menus and touch-screen interface and can feel fiddly to set up. Its image quality, however, can hardly be criticised.’
Ephotozine.com – ★★★★★½★ (Highly Recommended) – ‘The Panasonic Lumix GX9 delivers great image quality, and can easily be taken with you everywhere you go.’
Photographyblog.com – ★★★★½ (Highly Recommended) – ‘The Panasonic Lumix GX9 is a very able and affordable offering in the Lumix G series of cameras. Against the GX80 there are numerous refinements and plenty of reasons to go for the GX9 instead.’
Photoreview.com.au – 8.9/10 (Editor’s Choice)
Trustedreviews.com – ★★★★★ – ‘If you want a small camera that can shoot good-quality stills and 4K video alike, then the GX9 is well worth a look. ‘
Techradar.com – ★★★★★ – ‘In many ways the Lumix GX9 takes two steps forward over the GX8, but one step (maybe half a step) back. While there’s perhaps a little too much reliance on the touchscreen interface for some, especially when selecting your desired AF area, the GX9 is a nice camera and a very solid performer – it just doesn’t do quite enough to stand out from the crowd.’
