The best lenses for Nikon Z5

What lens to get for your Nikon Z5?

Released in August 2020, the Nikon Z 5 Full-format Hybrid inherits many of the qualities of the Nikon Z 6, but is the most affordable of the Nikon Full-format Hybrid range. The Nikon Z 5 is equipped with the famous 55mm Z-mount, the largest on the market in this camera category. Thus, more light reaches the full-format CMOS sensor of 24.3 MP.

The recorded images are brighter, the low lights are repelled and the colors are vivid. The Z 5 is a compact, space-saving, full-format camera that is both strong and relatively light for this category. Its 5-axis stabilized magnesium alloy body weighs only 675 grams and measures 134 x 100.5 x 69.5 mm. Thanks to the stabilizer, the camera can be operated with one hand without fear of blur or gives the choice of a low shooting speed. The ergonomics pushed as far as possible ensures a solid grip thanks to its comfortable handle.

Perfect for RAW or JPEG photography and 4K Ultra HD movie shooting, the Nikon Z5 meets the demands of discerning amateurs. Its versatility makes it suitable for most shooting situations, from the darkest to the most high-contrast. Its ISO sensitivity from ISO 100 to 51,200 is suitable for all types of scenes, while its 273 focus collimators ensure fast response.

Autofocus is fast and eye detection is effective, even with a moving subject. The bright 3,690,000-pixel OLED electronic viewfinder displays the exact image to be recorded. The histogram available directly in the viewfinder allows quick adjustments and smart choices. To complement the Z5’s versatility, a tilting touchscreen helps you view difficult angles and allows you to focus a scene with a single long press.

The Nikon Z 5 is an excellent entry-level choice for a full-format hybrid. With two SD card slots, you’ll never be caught off guard. The Nikon Z5 is equipped with the Expeed 6 processor, the same as Nikon’s high-end hybrids.

One more advantage. One small reproach, however: the disappearance of the upper recall screen. On the connection side, nothing is missing. A USB 3.0, a mini-HDMI socket, another for the remote control, a microphone socket and a headphone socket. The quality of its Z-mount and its full format weighs heavily in its favor.

NIKKOR Z 24-70 f/4 S

best lens Nikon Z6Weight: 500g
Filter size: 72 mm

The 24-70 mm f/4 S lens is the one that comes in kit form with Nikon’s Z6, Z7 and Z5 hybrids. It can also be purchased alone. Stamped S, this lens is guaranteed quality by Nikon.

This lens is part of the fairly classic ranges, with a constant aperture of only f/4 but which allows a regular exposure, regardless of the zoom setting. This provides uniform illumination over the entire focal length range. 14 lenses in 11 groups are used for the optics, which is a technical issue. These lenses include an aspherical ED glass lens, an ED glass lens, three aspherical lenses, a fluorine-treated lens to remove fingerprints, moisture or dust, and finally lenses treated with nanocrystal to limit parasitic images, to prevent moisture from infiltrating, the zoom lens has many seals spread over critical areas. No water or dust can get in.

In short, it’s a good way to start with the Nikon Z5, which offers good performance, is compact and tropicalized.

NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.8 S

best lenses for Nikon Z6Weight: 415 g
Filter size: 62 mm

Nikon has chosen a fairly simple design for its Nikkor Z 50 mm f/1.8 S lens. With an aperture much larger than the kit lens of a Z5, the 24-70 mm f/4, this 50 mm f/1.8 S is large enough for a mirrorless lens, and the Nikkor Z 50 mm f/1.8 S has a manual focusing ring in its center part. Ribbed, this ring is easy to grip and handle to allow the most accurate focus possible.

This ring can also be configured to control other housing functions. Offering a great experience for those who want to play with light, the Nikkor Z 50 mm f/1.8 S lens has exceptional optical performance for bright and detailed images. On the other hand, those who like to make pretty background blurs will be delighted with this objective. Its f/1.8 aperture and nine-blade circular diaphragm produce a homogeneous and natural-looking blur.

The only thing we can blame him for: a size a little too big for a 50mm. Apart from that, it’s really a very good objective, and it’s especially the cheapest in this ranking.
